Title: Former Teacher and School Resource Officer Charged in Sexual Misconduct Case in Northfield
Northfield, MN — A former teacher and a former school resource officer are facing serious allegations after a student reported inappropriate conduct involving the teacher. Katie Hanson, 37, who previously taught at Northfield Middle School, is accused of sending sexually explicit photos to several high school students via Snapchat. The incident came to light in December 2024, when a student provided evidence of the communications.
Hanson reportedly communicated with about twelve boys, including one who noted that some explicit images appeared to have been taken within a school building. Allegations indicate that she offered edibles to one of the students and invited him to her home, which he declined.
Gabriel Crombie, 33, the school resource officer at the time, is accused of failing to document the complaints properly. According to court documents, he did not file a report after interacting with students about the alleged incidents. Instead, Crombie admitted to taking photos from students’ phones and allegedly told one student he could delete the images.
In a post-interview, Hanson confessed that she had sent nude pictures to "several boys" and expressed that she enjoyed the attention. She claimed to have ceased communication when her relationship with Crombie began.
Both have been charged—Hanson with felony counts of sending sexually explicit materials to minors, and Crombie with aiding an offender and misconduct. The Northfield School District confirmed Hanson’s resignation shortly after being placed on administrative leave. Superintendent Matt Hillmann expressed concern over the situation, acknowledging the anger and distrust it has caused among the community.
Authorities encourage any parents with additional information to contact Northfield police. The investigation remains ongoing as both individuals face serious legal consequences.
