Minnesota Wild Retain Veteran Marcus Johansson with One-Year Contract
The Minnesota Wild have officially re-signed right wing Marcus Johansson to a one-year deal worth $800,000, ensuring the 15-year NHL veteran remains part of the team. The contract prevents Johansson from entering free agency, following a successful season in which he recorded 11 goals and 23 assists across 72 games. His performance ranked him sixth on the team in points, as he navigated between the second and third lines.
Johansson, 34, was acquired by the Wild from the Washington Capitals shortly before the NHL trade deadline in 2023. Over the 2024-25 season, he carried a salary cap hit of $2 million. Recently, he showcased his skills on the international stage, contributing four goals and four assists in nine games at the ice hockey world championships, helping Sweden secure a bronze medal.
With a career tally of 185 goals and 332 assists across 983 regular-season games with seven teams, Johansson’s experience will be a valuable asset for the Wild as they prepare for the upcoming season. The team’s management is optimistic that he will continue to enhance their offensive lineup.
