Press Release: Measles Exposure at Mall of America
Minnesota Health Officials Alert Public After New Measles Cases
Minnesota health officials are warning the public after two new cases of measles were confirmed, including one involving an unvaccinated child from Dakota County. This individual may have exposed others at Nickelodeon Universe inside the Mall of America on May 24.
The Minnesota Department of Health is urging anyone who visited the popular amusement park that day to be aware of possible symptoms, which typically include fever, cough, runny nose, and a distinctive rash. These symptoms can appear 7 to 14 days after exposure.
Officials are particularly concerned about individuals who are unvaccinated or have not received the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The MMR vaccine is known to be highly effective in preventing these diseases, which can lead to serious complications.
Health officials stress the importance of vaccination and encourage anyone potentially exposed to monitor their health closely and seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
In response to this outbreak, community awareness campaigns are being implemented to highlight the importance of vaccinations, especially as summer activities increase.
