Community Spirit Shines at Great Northfield Book Fair
NORTHFIELD, MN — The Great Northfield Book Fair, a beloved annual tradition, continues to draw book lovers from across Minnesota, offering a family-friendly environment where the community can gather and celebrate literature. Launched over 60 years ago as a fundraiser for the Northfield Hospital Auxiliary, the fair has blossomed into one of the state’s largest book sales.
“It’s really a community event,” says Mark Heiman, an organizer of the fair. “When we come together, it feels like a family reunion.” Last year, the event raised over $99,000 in just five days, contributing to a staggering total of nearly $1.4 million since its inception in 1961.
The success of the event relies heavily on more than 300 dedicated volunteers who help manage the sale of over 70,000 books each year. The fair not only promotes literacy but also strengthens community bonds, making it a cherished occasion for attendees of all ages. As Mark Heiman aptly put it, “A book is a gift you can open again and again,” a sentiment reflected in the enthusiasm of participants returning year after year.
