World Hypertension Day 2025: Expert Reveals 7 Lifestyle Tips for Managing High Blood Pressure | Health

Press Release: Raise Awareness on World Hypertension Day

May 17 marks World Hypertension Day, a critical occasion aimed at illuminating the hidden dangers of high blood pressure, often referred to as the “silent killer.” Hypertension can lead to severe health issues, including heart disease, strokes, and kidney failure, often without warning signs. Dr. Tushar Tayal, a consultant in internal medicine at Ck Birla Hospital, Gurugram, emphasizes the importance of managing blood pressure to ensure long-term health.

“High blood pressure usually does not exhibit symptoms but poses serious health risks,” Dr. Tayal warns. To combat hypertension, Dr. Tayal recommends several lifestyle modifications:

  1. Maintain a Healthy Weight: Aim for a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.9. Even slight weight loss can significantly lower blood pressure.

  2. Balanced Diet: Following the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet is crucial. Focus on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, while consuming less than 5 grams of salt daily.

  3. Regular Exercise: Engage in at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days to help maintain healthy blood pressure and lower stress.

  4. Limit Alcohol and Quit Smoking: Reducing alcohol intake and stopping smoking can drastically enhance cardiovascular health.

  5. Stress Management: Chronic stress is associated with high blood pressure. Techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, and ensuring adequate sleep can mitigate stress levels.

  6. Regular Blood Pressure Monitoring: Frequent checks are essential for those with a family history of hypertension. Early detection enables successful management.

  7. Medication Adherence: Consult a healthcare provider if lifestyle adjustments are insufficient, and always follow prescribed medication regimens.

As we observe World Hypertension Day, let us commit to understanding and managing this silent enemy for better heart health. Always consult healthcare professionals for personalized advice and guidance.
