Wild Sign Danila Yurov, Acquiring KHL’s Top Prospect for North America

Danila Yurov Signs Entry-Level Deal with Minnesota Wild, NHL Career Nears

In an exciting development for hockey fans, the Minnesota Wild announced on Friday that they have signed Russian center Danila Yurov to a three-year entry-level contract valued at $2.855 million, averaging $950,000 annually. Drafted 24th overall in 2022, Yurov’s contract features a unique European out clause, allowing him to return to his KHL team, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, if he doesn’t secure a spot on the roster this fall.

Yurov’s contract stipulates a base salary of $855,000, complemented by an annual signing bonus of $95,000. He also has the opportunity to earn up to $1 million in performance bonuses, contingent upon achieving various milestones like scoring 20 goals or making the All-Rookie team. This arrangement provides both sides with flexibility, considering the lucrative bonus structure available for 2022 draft picks.

The 21-year-old forward showcased his potential with an impressive KHL career, netting 41 goals and 88 points across 209 games. His breakout season included a team-leading 21 goals in 2023-24, earning him the league’s all-time under-21 scoring record, previously held by Vladimir Tarasenko. Despite struggling with injuries last season, Wild GM Bill Guerin praised Yurov’s character and commitment, stating he should be fully ready for training camp.

As the Wild evaluate their roster, questions loom regarding the future of fellow forward Marco Rossi, who may become expendable with Yurov’s arrival. Rossi has yet to agree to a contract extension and could be a candidate for trade discussions as the offseason progresses.

Wild fans can look forward to a promising future, with Yurov emphasizing his readiness to continue his journey in the NHL.
