Press Release: Kevin Bacon’s SixDegrees.org Launches Nationwide Mental Health Movement #IGetIt
May 1, 2023 — SixDegrees.org, the nonprofit founded by actor Kevin Bacon, has officially launched #IGetIt, a nationwide initiative aimed at normalizing conversations around mental health and enhancing access to support resources. The campaign seeks to foster genuine dialogue about mental well-being, connecting celebrities, nonprofits, and communities to express solidarity: “you’re not alone, and we get it.”
“Mental health affects us all,” Bacon stated. “Finding what helps us reset is vital when life gets tough.” The #IGetIt campaign debuted on May 1 as part of Mental Health Awareness Month and operates under SixDegrees.org’s Degree Shift program, collaborating with 13 nonprofit partners that provide various mental health services, including support for veterans and eating disorder treatment.
Executive Director Stacy Huston emphasized the campaign’s goal of inundating social media with practical strategies and resources. “We want to meet people where they are and amplify the expertise of nonprofits working in mental health,” Huston shared.
As part of the initiative, SixDegrees.org will release a series of episodes titled The Impact Lounge: Mental Health Conversations that Connect Us every Wednesday in May on YouTube. These episodes will highlight changemakers from each partner nonprofit, exploring key mental health trends and challenges.
Additionally, SixDegrees.org has curated a comprehensive resource guide, offering a wealth of free hotlines, podcasts, books, and videos focused on mental health. Available for download at SixDegrees.org/IGetIt, the guide includes resources from sponsors Calm and BetterHelp, while supplies last.
