SOUTH CENTRAL COLLEGE REINSTATES INTERNATIONAL STUDENT STATUS AMID ICE POLICY UPDATES

North Mankato, MN — An international student at South Central College, which operates campuses in North Mankato and Faribault, has had their visa status reinstated following recent complications with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

A government attorney announced in federal court in Oakland that ICE is actively working to restore the status of students whose records were terminated in recent weeks. This development follows broader scrutiny and various legal challenges regarding how international students’ visa statuses are managed in light of new enforcement measures.

According to Brian Green, the attorney representing plaintiffs in a related case, a government lawyer clarified that ICE is formulating a new policy to clarify procedures for managing Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records. “ICE will ensure that the SEVIS records for plaintiff(s) in this case, along with others in similar situations, will remain active or be reactivated if currently inactive,” said Green. The attorney emphasized that these assurances extend to all affected students, not solely to those participating in ongoing litigation.

The SEVIS is a vital database that tracks the compliance of international students with their visa requirements, making this reinstatement crucial for those impacted by recent changes.

As ICE works towards establishing a comprehensive framework for SEVIS record terminations, the college community and affected students remain hopeful for a resolution that safeguards their educational journeys. This development provides some relief amidst uncertainty surrounding international student policies.
