Law enforcement in northwestern Minnesota shoots man after chase while attempting to cross border with gun, charges state

A 34-year-old man from Oklahoma is facing charges after leading police on a multistate chase that ended in a shooting at the border between North Dakota and Canada. The man was accused of fleeing from police with at least one handgun in his possession. Authorities in Minnesota were notified of the pursuit and deployed stop strips to try to stop the man from driving at high speeds. The man eventually crashed into a ditch and was shot in the leg by an officer after allegedly refusing to drop his gun. He was later treated at the hospital and taken into custody.

If convicted, the man could face up to three years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the officer’s use of force in the incident. The man’s actions have raised concerns about public safety and the use of firearms in police pursuits. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the man’s actions and the consequences he may face.
