FBI Resources Boost Operation Not Forgotten in Minnesota

Republican leaders held a press conference to announce Operation Not Forgotten, a renewed effort to address high crime rates in Indigenous communities with a focus on cases involving violence against women and children. This initiative builds on previous efforts, such as the establishment of The Task Force on Missing and Murdered American Indians and Alaska Natives in 2019. The Minnesota Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Office, opened in 2022, is the first state office of its kind in the US. Ana Negrete, the office’s interim director, highlighted the need for additional resources and support to address the 21 active cases they are currently working on. FBI personnel will be deployed to Minneapolis and other field offices across Indian Country to assist in these investigations. Senator Mary Kunesh, a descendant of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, hopes that the operation will also reach tribal communities in greater Minnesota. Overall, the goal of Operation Not Forgotten is to bring justice, healing, and hope to Indigenous communities by addressing long-standing cases and providing support through federal resources.
