Protesters rally in Minnesota and nationwide against Trump and Musk in ‘Hands Off!’ demonstrations

Thousands of people across the United States participated in protests on Saturday, organized by more than 150 groups to voice their opposition to President Donald Trump’s administration and its policies. The “Hands Off!” demonstrations took place in over 1,200 locations in all 50 states, with a major rally in St. Paul, Minnesota attracting an estimated 25,000 people.

Protesters carried signs criticizing the Trump administration, with one sign reading “DOGE: Department of Greed and Evil,” and another referencing “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Attendees voiced their anger over moves such as firing federal workers, deporting immigrants, and cutting funding for health programs. Elon Musk, a Trump adviser, was mentioned as playing a key role in these downsizing efforts.

Individuals at the rally expressed their dismay and disappointment with the administration’s policies, with some highlighting concerns about the dismantling of diversity and equity initiatives. Many spoke about the need to stay engaged and motivated in the face of adversity, with one attendee recalling her parents’ activism during the civil rights movement.

Politicians, including St. Paul mayor Melvin Carter and U.S. Representative Betty McCollum, addressed the crowd at the St. Paul rally, emphasizing the importance of activism and democracy. The event featured performances by an indigenous dance group, underscoring the long history of struggle and resistance.

The protests were also held in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, near one of Trump’s golf courses, with participants calling for the protection of programs like Social Security and Medicare. The White House responded by stating that the president is committed to safeguarding these programs for eligible beneficiaries. Demonstrators vowed to continue their efforts to oppose the administration’s policies and defend the rights of all Americans.
