Federal authorities are investigating a fire that damaged the entryway of the Republican Party of New Mexico headquarters in Albuquerque. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives recovered unspecified “incendiary materials” at the scene. The fire is part of a series of attacks directed at Tesla, including several involving Molotov cocktails. No injuries were reported in the incidents.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze at the GOP office, which caused extensive damage but no injuries. The Mayor of Albuquerque condemned the arson as a cowardly act, and urged anyone with information to report it. The FBI is also involved in the investigation.
The GOP office’s security system detected the fire, and although the building was unoccupied, three people work in the office full time. Spray paint with the message “ICE=KKK” was found on the side of the building, but authorities did not comment on it.
The incidents are part of a wave of politically motivated crimes, with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi calling it “domestic terrorism.” Attacks on property associated with Elon Musk’s electric-car company have occurred across the U.S. and overseas. The ATF and FBI are working to determine the motive behind these incidents and bring those responsible to justice.
