Minnesota extends deadline for marijuana business applications due to technical difficulties

Minnesota has extended the deadline for cannabis business license applications after technical difficulties with the Accela software system on Friday. The system, used for submitting materials, is now operational again but will undergo maintenance on Saturday night that may cause disruptions. Despite potential delays in customer service responses, both general and social equity applicants can still apply for licenses until the new deadline. The state plans to hold lotteries for licenses in May or June, with a total of 324 “capped” licenses to be given out. Half of each license type will be reserved for social equity applicants. The four types of licenses that are capped include cultivators, manufacturers, retailers, and mezzobusinesses. These mezzobusinesses can handle multiple aspects of the cannabis industry, such as growing, selling, and buying products. This extension provides more opportunities for potential cannabis businesses to enter the market in Minnesota.
