Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student, has been missing in the Dominican Republic since March 6 while on a spring break trip with friends. She was last seen at the beach in the early hours of that day after her friends left her with people she had met. The investigation involves multiple international agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard and the FBI. Despite identifying a person of interest, no suspects have been named, and authorities are unsure if foul play was involved in her disappearance. Konanki’s family, friends, and college are actively involved in the search efforts.
Konanki’s friends did not realize she was missing until they returned from an excursion, approximately 12 hours later. The search for Konanki includes drones, helicopters, divers, boats, and canine units. There were no signs of violence at the beach where she disappeared, but red flags warning of strong currents were present at the time. The search operation has moved from the resort to Macao beach, with authorities interviewing witnesses and examining Konanki’s phone and texts.
The Indian Embassy in the Dominican Republic is assisting in the investigation, and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has filed for an Interpol yellow notice for a missing person alert. The investigation continues to explore all possible leads in the hopes of finding Konanki alive. Despite being missing for over a week, authorities are still treating the case as a missing person investigation and remain optimistic about finding Konanki.
