Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is embarking on a national tour to hold town halls in Republican districts where representatives are not hosting public meetings. This weekend, he will be in Windsor Heights, Iowa, and Nebraska, represented by Republican Reps. Zachary Nunn and Don Bacon, respectively. Walz, who gained national attention as the Democratic vice presidential nominee, plans to visit Wisconsin, Ohio, and some of Minnesota’s Republican-held districts.
The idea to visit conservative districts came after national Republicans advised their members to avoid town hall meetings due to public backlash over federal workforce and spending cuts. In response, Walz posted on social media offering to host events in districts where representatives refuse to meet with constituents.
Since his 2024 loss, Walz has become a prominent Democratic voice, positioning himself against the Trump administration. He is considering seeking a third term as governor of Minnesota in 2026 and has not ruled out a national run in 2028. However, he has downplayed the possibility of a presidential candidacy while announcing his town hall tour.
Walz’s initiative to engage with voters in Republican strongholds reflects a growing trend among Democrats to reach out to constituents in areas where their representatives are not accessible. With the support of prominent figures like Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Chris Murphy, Walz is emphasizing the importance of connecting with all Americans, regardless of political affiliation.
