A man named Delange Augustin is facing federal charges after attacking a flight attendant and causing a disturbance on an American Airlines flight from Savannah to Miami. Augustin allegedly had a violent outburst shortly after takeoff, kicking and punching a flight attendant and causing the pilots to turn the plane back to Savannah Hilton Head airport. Augustin’s sister, who was traveling with him, claimed they were fleeing spiritual attacks and that Augustin believed the flight was filled with darkness. Augustin swallowed rosary beads, claiming they were a weapon of spiritual strength. He also attempted to attack another flight attendant while exiting the plane, but was subdued by other passengers and airport police. Augustin was then evaluated at a hospital before being taken to Chatham County Detention Center. It is unclear if he has a lawyer at this time. The flight eventually departed back to Savannah after a delay. American Airlines stated that safety and security are their top priorities and thanked the crew and passengers for their cooperation.
