Governor Tim Walz and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) have announced that Minnesota’s exports increased by 7% between 2023 and 2024, outpacing the national export growth of 2% in the same period. Minnesota exported nearly $27 billion in goods to about 200 countries, ranking 13th in export growth and 23rd in export value among all states.
Major drivers of last year’s export success included mineral fuel, oil, optical and medical goods, plastics, and sugar products. The state saw growth across major world regions, notably in North America, Asia, and the Middle East. The strong performance of Minnesota’s exports was attributed to the state’s strong global ties and workforce of growers, problem-solvers, and innovators.
Minnesota Trade Office Executive Director Gabrielle Gerbaud highlighted the importance of cooperative relationships with key trade partners like Canada and Mexico. The state will continue to work towards maintaining its forward momentum despite any challenges that may arise. The full 2024 annual report and detailed trade statistics can be found on DEED’s website.
