Teen arrested by police for making online threats to ‘shoot up school’ and guns confiscated

A 17-year-old Florida teenager was arrested and charged with making online threats to “shoot up” a high school and possessing multiple guns and protective vests. The teenager, a student at Elevation High School in Sanford, was arrested at his home after police received an anonymous tip about a video featuring him threatening to attack Seminole High School. He has been charged with intimidation through making a written or electronic threat of mass shooting or a terrorist act. Although the video claimed he had an extensive arsenal, including firearms like an AK-47 and Glock 19, police only found airsoft weapons and vests during their search of his home. The quick collaboration of law enforcement agencies, including the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security, the FBI, and the local school district, helped prevent a potential tragedy. The incident is a reminder of the ongoing threat of school shootings in the United States, with one planned shooting already occurring in Nashville this year and a deadly shooting at a school in Parkland, Florida, in 2018. Authorities are urging anyone with information on the Seminole County case to contact the Sanford Police Department or Crime line anonymously.
