A recent blizzard hit the region, bringing snow accumulation of 4 to 6 inches in New Ulm and even higher amounts in surrounding areas. National Weather Service meteorologist Brennan Dettmann cautioned people to be cautious of slick spots caused by refreezing as temperatures dropped. Despite the snowfall, bright sunshine was already starting to melt some of the snow by Wednesday afternoon. Dettmann predicted a gradual melting process over the next few days, with daytime highs reaching the 50s and 60s, possibly clearing most of the snow by early next week. However, the Minnesota State Patrol reported numerous vehicles off the road and other incidents due to the hazardous conditions. The community is advised to remain alert and prepared for potential winter weather hazards as the snow continues to melt and temperatures fluctuate.
