TSMC to Invest $100 Billion in U.S. Following Announcement by Trump, Dubbed ‘Most Powerful Company’ in the World

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) plans to invest $100 billion in chip manufacturing in the U.S., bringing their total investment in the country to $165 billion. This investment will go towards building five new fabrication facilities in Arizona. TSMC supplies semiconductors to companies like Nvidia and Apple for artificial intelligence use. This announcement supports President Donald Trump’s efforts to make the U.S. an artificial intelligence hub, as well as his push to bring semiconductor production back to the U.S.

Trump has accused Taiwan of stealing U.S. chip manufacturing business and has advocated for tariffs on semiconductor imports. TSMC’s finance chief expressed confidence in the White House administration continuing to support the company’s U.S. ambitions. The company had previously committed $12 billion to build a chip factory in Arizona, which was later raised to $65 billion with a third factory.

Nvidia plans to utilize TSMC’s global manufacturing network to enhance their supply agility and resilience. The U.S. government has supported TSMC with a $6.6 billion subsidy from the Commerce Department. Overall, this investment by TSMC in the U.S. chip manufacturing industry is seen as a significant move for both economic and national security reasons, as the U.S. aims to strengthen its semiconductor production capabilities.
