Vikings backing women’s college flag football

The Minnesota Vikings have announced a partnership with six NCAA institutions to launch a new collegiate women’s flag football league. With support from the NFL, the Vikings will contribute $140,000 to support the league and participating schools. Teams will compete in jamborees at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul and the University of Wisconsin, Stout in April leading up to the championship tournament at TCO Stadium in Eagan on April 26.

Vikings Vice President of Social Impact Brett Taber expressed excitement about the growth of girls’ and women’s flag football, stating that the partnership with the NCAA institutions will empower the next generation of athletes in the sport.

Since 2022, the Vikings have been supporting girls’ flag football at the middle and high school levels in Minnesota, aiming to reduce barriers and increase opportunities for female athletes. The team also hopes to establish girls high school flag football as a varsity sport in Minnesota in the future. Flag football is the fastest-growing emerging high school sport in the nation, with 14 states already sanctioning it at the high school level.
