The Minnesota Star Tribune wins big with Grand Slam honors and 11 top 10 rankings in APSE journalism contest

The Minnesota Star Tribune has been recognized with 11 Top 10 honors in the 2024 Associated Press Sports Editors national sports journalism contest. Among these honors are four categories needed to win the top honor, a Grand Slam award. The Star Tribune now joins the Boston Globe and the Washington Post as Grand Slam winners in Division A, the largest news organizations category. Reporters Chip Scoggins, Ben Goessling, Andrew Krammer, and Bob Timmons were behind the winning work for the Star Tribune.

In addition to the reporters’ contributions, photos by Carlos Gonzalez and Alex Kormann were also recognized in the feature photography category. The print special section dedicated to Minnesotans competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics was named in the top 10 across a combined A/B Division.

The entries were evaluated by over 100 sports journalists from around the country, with the results being announced at the APSE’s annual winter meeting in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, last week. This isn’t the first time the Star Tribune has been honored with Grand Slam recognition, having previously received the award in 2016 and 2022.

The Star Tribune has consistently showcased excellence in sports journalism, and this recognition from the APSE further solidifies their place among the top news organizations in the country. With a dedicated team of reporters and photographers, the Star Tribune continues to provide top-notch coverage of sports events and stories.
