Pam Bondi warns Minnesota for disregarding ban on transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports

Recently sworn in U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has put Minnesota on notice after state leaders rejected President Donald Trump’s executive order banning transgender athletes from participating in girls’ and women’s sports. Bondi warned Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison that the Department of Justice is prepared to sue states that do not comply with the order. Ellison, however, remains steadfast in his stance, citing human rights protections in the state.

Minnesota Republicans see an opportunity with Bondi leading the Justice Department, and have reached out to her for assistance in investigating alleged fraud in the state. State House Republicans have written to Bondi outlining years of fraud due to failed leadership by Governor Tim Walz and legislative Democrats. Additionally, three Minnesota Republicans in Congress have asked Bondi to investigate election results in Scott County after 20 absentee ballots were lost in one precinct.

Minnesota Republican Party Chair Alex Plechash expressed support for the letters to Bondi, stating that it is important to address these issues. However, a spokeswoman for Governor Walz dismissed the letters as “partisan stunts.”

Despite the threats of legal action from Bondi, Ellison remains resolute in his defense of transgender athletes’ rights to participate in sports. The situation in Minnesota continues to escalate as state leaders and federal authorities clash over the issue.
