Israel has received the bodies of four more Israeli hostages, Tsachi Idan, Shlomo Mantzur, Itzhak Elgarat, and Ohad Yahalomi, from Hamas through the Red Cross. This is part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, with 29 hostages already returned out of an agreed 33. The bodies of the hostages are being identified in Israel. Around 600 Palestinian prisoners were supposed to be handed over but weren’t, with 590 to 594 expected to be released. The handover process was delayed after forensic testing revealed a mix-up with one of the caskets. The International community condemned a previous handover ceremony by Hamas, where caskets were used as propaganda. Shlomo Mantzur, the oldest hostage at 85, was taken from his home in kibbutz Kisufim. Tsachi Idan was kidnapped from his home in kibbutz Nahal Oz after Hamas gunmen killed his daughter. Itzhak Elgarat, a dual Israeli-Danish citizen, was taken hostage from his safe room. Ohad Yahalomi was wounded while guarding his family’s safe room and taken into Gaza along with his family, with his son later released. The hostages were taken during a terrorist attack on Oct. 7, 2023, leading to a year-and-a-half-long war between Israel and Hamas. Thousands watched as the hostages were laid to rest in Israel, bringing some closure to their families.
