Bethany Mussell, a 41-year-old alpine skier from Bloomington, has been selected to represent the United States in the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy. Despite learning how to ski in her twenties, Mussell has been competing for the past 15 years and recently won three medals at the Special Olympics Alpine State Ski Meet. She has been training year-round for the upcoming games and is feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness as she prepares to represent her country for the first time at the international competition. Her coach, Berit Dussault, describes her as “awesome” and is excited for her to have this experience. Mussell, who also works as a concierge at a senior living community, will be celebrated with a send-off party before departing for Italy on March 4th. This opportunity is a significant milestone for Mussell and a testament to her dedication and perseverance in pursuing her passion for alpine skiing despite facing challenges related to her learning disability.
