Musk’s decision came after President Donald Trump praised Musk’s performance as head of the Department of Government Efficiency but urged him to be more aggressive. Musk defended the email requirement, describing it as a “trivial task” and a “very basic pulse check.”
Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) also criticized Musk, stating in a video from the Senate floor that he lacks an understanding of government spending. She emphasized that spending decisions are not based on Musk’s preferences and that laws are not illegal simply because he disagrees with them. Musk responded on X by questioning Murray’s accomplishments for the week.
Musk has faced backlash for his role in DOGE and his claims of fraud and corruption within the federal government, which have been refuted by the Department of Justice. Despite Trump’s assertions, Musk is considered a White House adviser and not in charge of DOGE. The White House did not offer immediate comment on the situation.
