Minnesota Crookston Defeats ‘Cats 11-9 in NSIC Baseball Series

Minnesota Crookston baseball team rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to defeat Wayne State 11-9 in the final game of a four-game series in Pueblo, Colorado. UMC now stands at 4-3 and 3-1 in the Northern Sun Conference, while WSC drops to 2-6 and 1-3 in league play.

After Wayne State took an early lead, UMC matched their five-run inning with five of their own in the third to tie the game. WSC regained the lead in the fourth, but UMC took their first lead in the fifth, eventually winning 11-9. The Wildcats attempted a rally in the ninth but fell short.

Both teams had 11 hits in the game, with Max Heard leading WSC with a homer, double, and four RBI. Gabe Monosmith and Nate Cunningham also had notable performances for the Wildcats. Eli Crnkovich took the loss as the fourth of six Wildcat pitchers.

Wayne State will resume play on Saturday, March 8th, kicking off their spring break trip to Florida by facing Embry-Riddle (Fla.) in Daytona Beach at 2 p.m. The team will look to bounce back from their recent defeat and improve their standing in the Northern Sun Conference.

Overall, it was an exciting game of baseball between two competitive teams, with Minnesota Crookston ultimately coming out on top in the nail-biting finish.
