Journal sports editor Travis Rosenau was honored with first and second place awards for sports photography by the Minnesota Newspaper Association. The awards were given for his photos of baseball victory celebrations during the 2024 spring and summer seasons. The Journal staff as a whole also received awards, including third place for best Community Events Coverage and General Excellence.
Rosenau, who has been with the Journal for eight years, highlighted the importance of positioning when capturing celebration photos during baseball games. Staff writer Fritz Busch also received an award for his coverage of the PrinceFest event, a tribute to the musician Prince held in New Ulm. The festival drew fans from across the country and Busch captured unique moments such as the release of a white dove during a musical performance. The recognition at the MNA awards banquet was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Journal staff in delivering quality news to their community.
