L.A. in Turmoil: Storm Causes Mudslides, Evacuations, and Warnings

A winter downpour in Los Angeles caused mudslides on Mulholland Drive and prompted evacuations in areas affected by wildfires last month. The heavy rain led to flash flood warnings near the Palisades Fire burn scar area, with orders to leave the Pacific Palisades and other regions. Evacuation maps were posted online, and an NBC News crew captured an SUV being swept into the ocean in Malibu by a mud and water flow. Mandatory evacuations were issued in Orange County for Trabuco Creek, Bell Canyon, and Hot Springs Canyon. Ventura County issued an evacuation warning near the Mountain Fire burn scar area. As of Thursday afternoon, 32 million people were under flood watches in California, with up to 10 inches of rain expected in higher terrain. Despite the cancellation of flood warnings, the National Weather Service warned about the possibility of mud and rock slides continuing after the rain stopped. The rain is expected to continue until Friday, with varying amounts expected in different regions.
