Supernal readies eVTOL technology demonstrator for inaugural flight in Mojave

A mystery electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft spotted at the Mojave Air & Space Port in California this week has been revealed to be a full-scale technology demonstrator (FSTD) developed by Supernal, a company owned by Hyundai Motor Group. Photographer Matt Hartman from Shorealone Films captured images of the aircraft on Feb. 10, sparking widespread speculation. The Air Current has confirmed that the aircraft is being used by Supernal to test various subsystems and build up its flight testing capabilities.

Although the FSTD does not resemble Supernal’s S-A2 design revealed last January at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, this was expected as the company had stated that the FSTD would have a different appearance from its production concept. This development has generated significant interest in the eVTOL industry as Supernal is known for its innovative approach to electric aircraft technology.

This new aircraft represents an advancement in the eVTOL sector and showcases the progress being made towards the development of electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles. With companies like Supernal pushing boundaries in this field, the future of urban air mobility looks promising. The testing of the FSTD is a crucial step in the development process and will provide valuable data for Supernal to refine its designs and ensure the safety and efficiency of its aircraft.

Overall, Supernal’s FSTD at the Mojave Air & Space Port is a significant development in the eVTOL industry and demonstrates the company’s commitment to advancing electric aircraft technology.
