Minnesota woman Mariska Nunn crashes into grandfather Dean Chadbourne while on TikTok

Mariska Nunn, a 20-year-old Minnesota woman, has been charged with felony criminal vehicular homicide after allegedly plowing her car into 81-year-old retired grandfather, Dean Chadbourne, in Detroit Lakes. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight last September, resulted in Chadbourne’s death just 45 minutes after he was struck.

Nunn told police she was watching a TikTok video on her phone in her lap while driving home from her boyfriend’s house when the crash happened. Phone records showed she was using the app for up to six minutes before calling 911. Nunn was only charged last month and has since been released from custody.

Chadbourne was described as a kindhearted and patient man who was a former middle school teacher and business owner. His loved ones said he was always willing to help others and loved spending time with his grandson, Kayden. Chadbourne’s tragic death has highlighted the dangers of distracted driving and the devastating impact it can have on families.
