The Pine Journal, a newspaper based in Minnesota, recently took home a total of 16 awards in the Minnesota Newspaper Association’s Better Newspaper Contest for the 2023-24 period. These awards were presented during the MNA Convention & Trade Show in Brooklyn Park. The Pine Journal secured second place for general reporting and third place for its overall use of photography.
Among the staff members, reporter Macklin Caruso stood out by winning three individual awards for his stories on various topics, including arts and entertainment, government affairs, and business profiles. Additionally, Caruso and reporter Jamey Malcomb shared a second-place award for their coverage of courts and crime. Other team members recognized included digital producer Dan Williamson, photographer Jed Carlson, sports reporter Reagan Hoverman, retail advertising manager Ali Carlson, and advertising account executive Scott Blatchford.
