An air ambulance operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance crashed near a mall in northeast Philadelphia, resulting in fatalities. Among those on board were four crew members, a pediatric patient, and the patient’s escort. Six people with injuries were taken to Temple University Hospital. The Learjet 55 departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport en route to Missouri. The patient was a child returning to Mexico after receiving treatment in the U.S. The crash occurred around 6:30 pm, near Roosevelt Mall. The identities of the people on board have not been publicly released. The FAA and NTSB will investigate the incident. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro is offering Commonwealth resources to respond to the crash. Video shows the plane descending at an angle before a fireball is seen. The air temperature at the time of the crash was 49 degrees with light rain and some fog. This crash follows a recent deadly aviation incident in which 67 people were killed when a passenger plane collided with a Black Hawk military helicopter near Washington, D.C. Rev. Todd Sheridan Yeary, a former FAA air traffic controller, noted that the aircraft had a reputation for airworthiness, suggesting that something catastrophic happened soon after takeoff.
