A Nicollet man, Aaron D. Lambrecht, is facing animal cruelty charges after three of his cows escaped last summer and were struck and killed by vehicles, sending two people to the hospital. Lambrecht has a history of allowing his animals to escape, with 22 interactions with law enforcement dating back to August 2021. Less than two months before the crashes, he received two public nuisance citations.
The incidents occurred on July 24 when the cows wandered onto Hwy. 14 in Nicollet County causing multiple crashes. The first driver suffered serious injuries, while the other two drivers escaped with minor injuries. All three cows were killed in the accidents.
Lambrecht admitted to law enforcement that the cows were able to push their way out of their enclosure. He has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of public nuisance and three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty. It is unclear if he has an attorney at this time. The incidents have sparked concerns about animal welfare and road safety in the community.
