Ellison stated that Minnesota will focus on its own business and not do the bidding of the federal government, arguing that local officials are not required to collaborate with federal law enforcement. This comes in response to a memo from Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, who outlined plans to challenge state and local laws that hinder immigration initiatives. Ellison emphasized that it is not the responsibility of local law enforcement to carry out the dictates of the Trump administration, citing past legal challenges that the administration has lost in court.
