Minnesota maintains high ranking in volunteerism due to a strong culture of giving back and robust infrastructure for nonprofits and volunteer organizations. A study by the Minnesota Alliance for Volunteer Advancement found that nonprofits have successfully adapted to post-pandemic challenges by offering virtual opportunities, flexible hours, and skill-based volunteer roles. These changes have attracted younger volunteers and helped organizations reach out to rural communities, resulting in increased volunteerism in those areas.
Niila Hebert, executive director of a nonprofit, noted the importance of flexibility in volunteer opportunities for rural communities. Rob Williams, president of Every Meal in Roseville, highlighted the organization’s need for thousands of volunteers to provide meals to children in Minnesota, and the successful return of volunteers post-pandemic.
These efforts have ensured that Minnesota remains at the top in terms of volunteerism, with a strong foundation of volunteer engagement and innovative approaches to addressing community needs.
