The Minnesota Jays, a 13U baseball team, have secured a spot in the upcoming D1 Nation’s West Coast National Championship in Las Vegas but are in need of donations to cover the travel expenses. The team, which has faced challenges in the past and lost their junior coach Marcell Mitchell to a heart condition earlier this year, is determined to honor him by winning the tournament. Marcell’s twin brother, Marqueal Mitchell, mentioned that the team has faced adversity but has always had the support of the community.
The team has previously won two national championships with the help of fundraisers organized by the community and is now asking for $15,000 for Vegas. Many of the players come from single-parent households and want to work hard to earn their way to the championship. An online fundraiser has been launched, with the players expressing their gratitude for any help in making their trip to Las Vegas possible.
