Camper missing for over 5 weeks in Canada’s Northern Rockies found safe.


Sam Benastick, a 20-year-old Canadian man from Kamloops who went missing during a camping trip in Redfern-Keily Provincial Park in the Northern Rockies, has been found safe after more than five weeks of searching. He was spotted by two individuals on their way to work at Redfern Lake trail and taken to a hospital for a check-up. Benastick stated that he had camped in his car, on a mountainside, and in a dry creek bed before finally making his way to the trail where he was found. Various search and rescue teams, including Kamloops Search and Rescue, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, Fort Nelson, North Peace, Canadian Rangers, and local volunteers, contributed to the search efforts. The authorities expressed relief and joy upon finding Benastick alive, as there were concerns about his safety due to the duration of his disappearance. Redfern-Keily Park is located approximately 561 miles north of Vancouver and 486 miles north of Kamloops. The outcome of this search and rescue operation has been described as extremely positive and highlights the dedication and teamwork of those involved in locating Benastick.
