In a tragic incident, Officer Jesse Branch of the Red Lake Police Department and Alan Lussier Jr., a member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, lost their lives in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 1 east of the Red Lake Community. Officer Branch was on duty and responding to a call at the time of the accident. Tributes poured in from various law enforcement agencies honoring Branch as a respected and dedicated professional who served his community with love. Gov. Tim Walz ordered flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff in memory of Officer Branch, recognizing his commitment to public service and the Red Lake Nation. The tragic incident has left families, friends, and the community grieving, with heartfelt condolences extended to the families of both victims. The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office provided an escort through Beltrami County to honor Officer Branch’s service and dedication. Minnesota recognizes Officer Branch’s legacy and the impact he had on his community.
