Minnesota non-profit organizations offer complimentary Thanksgiving dinners

Volunteers and staff at Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities in St. Paul are preparing to serve 300 to 400 people on Thanksgiving Day. This effort is part of a larger initiative across Minnesota where nonprofit organizations are providing free Thanksgiving meals to those in need. One family, the Duryeas, have made volunteering on Thanksgiving Eve a tradition after being inspired by their daughter Annika. For them, giving back is a reminder of the true meaning of Thanksgiving and being grateful for what they have. The Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities serves three hot meals a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year in addition to providing safe housing for those in need. Meanwhile, the Salvation Army Harbor Light Center will serve roughly 800 meals on Thanksgiving. This event is not open to the public, but free meals were provided to the community on other days throughout the week. The organizations express gratitude for the volunteers and staff who make these Thanksgiving meals possible.
