Man suffers life-threatening electric shock while hanging Christmas lights on tree


A worker in Wellesley, Massachusetts was seriously injured after receiving an electric shock while hanging Christmas lights on a tree. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. and the worker, a 22-year-old man employed by NZ Power Wash, was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man was using a pole to string up the lights when it came into contact with an electrical line atop a utility pole, giving him a shock. He collapsed and a coworker performed CPR until police officers arrived and used a defibrillator to restart his heart.

The victim was taken to Newton Wellesley Hospital and then to Massachusetts General Hospital for further treatment. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the incident, along with the Wellesley Police and the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant.

The Wellesley Police, Fire, and WMLP Departments have extended their thoughts and prayers to the victim and his family during this tragic incident. The coworker who witnessed the incident declined to comment but mentioned that the man is recovering in the hospital. The police officer at the scene mentioned that the worker is lucky to have survived the shock and it was a serious incident that resulted in severe injuries.
