Costco recalls organic eggs due to salmonella worries

Organic eggs sold at Costco under the Kirkland Signature brand are being recalled due to potential contamination with salmonella. Approximately 10,800 retail units were affected, with a Julian code of 327 and a “use by” date of Jan. 6, 2025. The recall only applies to eggs sold in 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee starting from Nov. 22. Handsome Brook Farms, based in New York, initiated the recall after discovering that eggs not meant for retail were mistakenly packaged and distributed in stores. There have been no reported illness complaints so far.

Consumers who have purchased the affected eggs should stop consumption and return the products to their local Costco store for a full refund, or dispose of them. Handsome Brook Farms is implementing additional supply chain controls and retraining to prevent similar incidents in the future. The recall is being conducted in cooperation with the FDA to ensure consumer safety. No other products are affected by the recall, and the company is taking steps to prevent any potential health risks to customers.
