This Thanksgiving holiday, travelers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport are facing potentially record-breaking crowds, according to experts. With more than 31 million passengers expected to fly on U.S. carriers over the holiday, an all-time high, there is a significant increase from pre-pandemic numbers.
Despite the high number of travelers, the National Weather Service is predicting a calm week in Minnesota with temperatures in the mid-20s on Thanksgiving. However, other parts of the Midwest and East Coast may see heavy rain leading up to the holiday, with possible snow in the Northeast.
San Francisco-based travel expert Henry Harteveldt of Atmosphere Research Group anticipates that Delta, the largest airline at MSP, will benefit from the strong demand, resulting in a busy airport. To ease the stress of travel, MSP offers a reservation system to hold a spot in security lines and recommends prebooking parking to ensure a space. Metro Transit’s Blue Line light rail service also provides transportation to both terminals.
Overall, Thanksgiving travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, pack accordingly, and be prepared for potential delays. With a potentially record-breaking holiday season ahead, staying organized and informed is key to a smooth travel experience.
