Gas prices in Minnesota continue to drop as Thanksgiving travel approaches, with stations selling a gallon for less than $3 on average. The statewide average is 23 cents cheaper than last year, with the Twin Cities metro slightly higher at $2.89 per gallon. Minnesota’s prices are also lower than the national average of $3.02 per gallon. GasBuddy predicts the national average could fall to $2.98 per gallon before Thanksgiving.
According to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, Americans are eager to hit the road for Thanksgiving, with gas prices falling below $3 in over half of the states. Prices have dropped nearly 70 cents from summer highs to their lowest level since 2021, providing relief for travelers. AAA attributes the drop in prices to lower demand, seasonal trends, and increased oil production.
In Minnesota, Pennington County has the lowest average price at $2.57 per gallon, while Dodge County has the highest at $2.99. With prices expected to remain low leading up to the holidays, road trips are becoming a more affordable option for millions of Americans. Overall, the decrease in gas prices is making travel more accessible and cost-effective for Thanksgiving motorists.
