MaxPreps, America’s leading source for high school sports, has named Chase Thompson of Alexandria as the 2024 MaxPreps Minnesota High School Football Player of the Year. Thompson, a 6-foot-7 senior quarterback, led the Cardinals to a 10-3 record and their first state title game appearance in 30 years.
Throughout the season, Thompson threw for an impressive 3,592 yards and 38 passing touchdowns, ranking among the top in state history. In the championship game against Elk River, he threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns in a close 33-24 loss. In the semifinals against Owatonna, Thompson had a standout performance with 396 yards and five touchdowns.
Thompson’s talents aren’t limited to the football field – he recently signed with Clemson to play basketball, showcasing his skills as a multi-sport athlete. His success on the gridiron has earned him the title of Minnesota’s Player of the Year, a recognition based on team success, individual excellence, and local and state accolades.
Thompson joins a prestigious list of past MaxPreps Minnesota Players of the Year, including Trey Feeney, Emmett Johnson, Jacob Kilzer, and Savion Hart. Each state’s Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, highlighting the top performers in high school football across the country.
