Minnesota law enforcement agencies are stepping up DWI enforcement during the holiday season to ensure the safety of drivers on the road. Starting on November 27th and continuing through New Year’s Eve, more than 300 local agencies will be providing extra enforcement to prevent tragedy during the holidays. The Department of Public Safety warns that impaired driving, whether it be alcohol, cannabis, prescription drugs, or sleep aids, can lead to devastating consequences. With over 127,000 impaired driving arrests in the past five years, the state stresses the importance of making smart and responsible decisions while driving. A DWI conviction can result in license suspension, fines, jail time, and the use of an ignition interlock for repeat offenders or those with a high blood alcohol concentration. The public is encouraged to plan ahead for the holiday season, offering to be a designated driver, wearing a seatbelt, and reporting suspected impaired drivers to law enforcement. Remember, one reckless decision can have life-changing consequences on the road.
