Russell Vought, co-author of Project 2025, chosen by Trump to head budget office

President-elect Donald Trump has named Russell Vought, a co-author of Project 2025 and former platform policy director for the Republican National Committee, as his pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget. Trump praised Vought as an “aggressive cost-cutter” who will help implement the “America First Agenda.” Vought has previously held the same role during Trump’s first term and is known for advocating for fiscal responsibility. In his previous role, Vought argued that the OMB director should set fiscal goals to address government irresponsibility.

Vought responded to his nomination with gratitude on social media and expressed his commitment to serving the American people. Trump and his allies have distanced themselves from Project 2025, but many associated with the initiative have been chosen for positions in the incoming administration. If confirmed by the Senate, Vought will oversee the budget and execution of Trump’s policies.

Other key Cabinet picks announced by Trump include Scott Turner for Housing and Urban Development Secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer for Labor Secretary, Marty Makary for FDA Commissioner, and Dave Weldon for CDC Director. Sebastian Gorka, a former aide with a controversial past, was also named as Deputy Assistant and Senior Director for Counterterrorism. Trump’s expected deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, called Vought a “transformative pick” for the budget office, highlighting his role in dismantling the “Deep State.”
