In a historic matchup between two powerhouse high school football programs, the Becker Bulldogs emerged victorious over the Totino-Grace Eagles in the Class 4A MSHSL Prep Bowl. The Bulldogs, coached by Dwight Lundeen for 55 years with three state championships under his belt, defeated the Eagles 24-8, cementing their place in Prep Bowl history.
Becker’s dominant performance included a strong showing on both offense and defense, with a 6.7 yards per carry average and holding Totino-Grace to just 152 total yards. Senior Kaden Nicolas expressed his joy after the win, emphasizing the team effort that led to their success.
For Totino-Grace, the loss marked a disappointing end to a season where they had hoped to add to their impressive state championship resume. Despite a valiant effort, the Eagles fell short against the relentless Becker defense.
The Bulldogs’ victory was a long time coming, as they had faced heartbreak in previous seasons, including losses in the state semifinals and section finals. Lundeen, reflecting on the team’s journey, emphasized the greater purpose of impacting the community positively and building strong role models.
The game was a tribute to the perseverance and dedication of both teams, with Becker coming out on top to claim the Class 4A title. As the Bulldogs celebrated their hard-earned victory, Totino-Grace faced the disappointment of falling short of their championship aspirations.
