Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who recently withdrew his name from consideration to be President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general amid sexual misconduct allegations, announced that he does not plan to rejoin Congress. Gaetz stated in an interview that he has been in elected office for 14 years and feels it is time to pursue other goals in life, such as spending time with his wife and family. He expressed his excitement for new candidates running for his former seat in Florida, stating that he believes they will provide great representation for his district. Gaetz emphasized that he will continue to support President Trump and do whatever is asked of him, but feels that after eight years in Congress, it is time for new blood to come in. He believes that stepping back from Congress at this time is poetic and will allow for high-quality representation in his district. Gaetz’s former office in the House has not provided any comments on his decision to not rejoin Congress.
