The initial rankings for Division II football teams were recently released, with the top 10 teams listed alphabetically. Among the top teams in the region were Angelo State, Central Washington, Colorado Mesa, and Western Oregon. The playoff field for DII consists of 28 teams divided into four regions, with the top seed in each region receiving a first-round bye.
In Division III football, St. John’s is ranked third in the D3football.com poll and leads the league in sacks and rushing defense. Linebacker Hayden Sanders has been a standout player for the Johnnies, leading the team in solo tackles and tackles for loss. Sanders was named the MIAC defensive player of the week after a strong performance against Gustavus Adolphus.
The Johnnies are ranked sixth in the nation in run defense, but Bethel currently leads D-III in the category. St. Thomas will be playing Morehead State in hopes of securing their fifth consecutive victory.
